The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a medium, square gundog with a harsh steel-gray coat, a bearded face, and dropped ears. The outline is that of a versatile hunter, built for field and water.

A wiry gundog for an active house; beard and coat work, a field voice, and daily hunt or hard walks in rough country.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was developed by Eduard Korthals as a versatile gundog. It points and retrieves on land and in water.

Color: Steel gray with brown markings, or roan; solid brown also occurs
Coat: Harsh, straight, and wiry, with a dense undercoat and a distinct beard

Temperament

Griffons are typically loyal to their hunter, reserved with strangers, and serious about work. They need field or water work, not just a backyard.

Training

Be consistent and start bird and water work early.

Care and grooming

Brush the harsh coat weekly and strip it a few times a year. Dry the ears after swimming.

Low to moderate.

Health

Wirehaired Pointing Griffons may develop hip dysplasia and ear infections. Ask breeders about hip scores.
