The Afghan Sheepdog is an intentional cross, not a kennel-club breed with a single written standard. Two dogs from the same pairing can differ in size, coat, and temperament, because each puppy inherits a different mix of traits from the contributing breeds.

An Afghan Sheepdog combines the Afghan Hound with the Belgian Shepherd Groenendael. Both are tall, long-coated dogs, so the mix is usually large, black or cream-sable, with a full ruff and a fine or slightly harsh jacket.
This is a lot of dog. The Groenendael brings herding drive and watchfulness; the Afghan brings speed and a thinner skin for rough play. They need space, structured exercise, and a handler who will keep training going past puppyhood. The coat mats behind the ears and in the pants if it is ignored.
